Quality Hunters On the hunt for better travel! Looking for the best practical ideas to make air travel smoother for you, me and everybody else.

The most boring bits of all, part 2

Finnair luggage at airport 01 Low

As we all know, there are moments in travel when the smoothly flowing experience comes to a halt and the passenger is left with a bit of time that could be put to better use — or made more fun. We previously talked about the waiting time in the plane after landing.

Feeling welcome at airports is something we’ve talked a lot about, and surely this is a big part of it. After all, the baggage claim is probably the only place at the airport where most of us spend a longer stretch of time with not particular to do.

Even though waiting times for your bags shouldn’t be too long, it would be nice to have something fun or useful to do or something pretty to look at while you’re waiting for your bags. What kind of services, information or entertainment would you like the airport to provide you with?

Perhaps you’d like to get some last minute tips for the city you’re heading to, book a tour at an interesting destination or find other travellers staying at the same hotel to share a taxi with you? Perhaps you’d like to learn about services you’ll find at the arrivals hall or get recommendations for things you should not miss at your destination.

From @petchmo’s luggage belt surfing to @toffeebugs’ game of guess-who-has-the-biggest-suitcase, we’re interested in hearing your ideas!

What I would like is simply a meeting point for solo travelers who would like to have a chat with other travellers…

Currently sitting in a lounge that is overcrowded.. yet everyone is sitting in their own little bubble..

Im bored, would love to chat with someone.. so why doenst the airport setup something for travellers to meet and connect

That’s a great idea! Which airport are you at? Have you checked Twitter to see if there are other Quality Hunters around? You guys are everywhere :)

Great idea. Maybe there could be a corner in the lounges which is the chat corner. So that everybody knows that if you sit there, you’re open for a conversation.

One of the reasons that I have to wait at the luggage belt, is that I don’t know when my baggage will be there. Sometimes it’s super quick, in other places the wait is long. It would be nice to know when I leave the plane, how long it will take for my luggage to be placed on the belt, how far I am from that belt, and maybe something I could do in between. A sign, similar to the so-many-minute-walk-to-terminal-1 signs, that says if you have 10 minutes, you can visit the book swap, go to the Marimekko store or…; in 20 minutes you can visit the museum, the cafe or …

I’m wondering… It would be great if we can track where are our bags… Say when we check in our bags, there can be a code assigned to the bags. Either every bag has it’s unique code, or all the bags with the same destination get the same code.

When we landed, we can login to some mobile phone app and get and update on where the bags are now, or even show their location on a map.

Apart from this, I like to get more info on transportation and “what’s on” in the city at the moment. Like, if there is any special events or show happening.
